Fernandez is the first figure skater from Spain to win the World title (2015) and to take a medal at an ISU Championship (gold at 2013 Europeans). He is also the first Spanish skater to win a medal at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating (silver at Skate Canada 2011) and to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, where he took bronze in Dec 2011. Fernandez is the first man to represent Spain in figure skating at the Olympic Winter Games since 1956 when Dario Villalba competed. Fernandez switched coaches in spring 2011 and moved to Canada for training. He released an autobiography in fall 2016. Coach Brian Orser is the 1984 and 1988 Olympic silver medalist.

＜訳＞フェルナンデスはスペイン出身ではじめて2015年に世界タイトル、そしてISUチャンピオンシップでメダルを取った（2013年ユーロ金）フィギュアスケーターである。さらにISUグランプリシリーズでメダルを取って（2011年スケートカナダ銀メダル）、グランプリファイナルへの出場権を獲得した初めてのスペインスケーターでもあり、2011年12月のファイナルでは銅メダルを取った。フェルナンデスは1956年にダリオ・ビジャルバがオリンピック冬季大会に出場して以来のスペイン代表である。フェルナンデスは2011年春にコーチを替えてトレーニングのためカナダに引っ越した。2016年秋に著書を出した。コーチのブライアン・オーサーは1984年と1988年のオリンピック銀メダリスト。
