世界選手権やオリンピックで同国で何人まで出られるか、出場する選手の成績で枠が決まります。その枠について。
枠は slot または spot
毎日新聞の記事だと、slot も spot もどちらも使われています。「確保する」は、secureです。berthも出場権という意味があります。
- 枠を確保する secure slots（spots）
- 枠を失う lose a slot（spot）

羽生と宇野の大きな影に隠れ、とても無名だった友野が現れた。「West Side Story」を彼の人生のスケートで滑り、翌年の世界選手権の日本男子3枠を確保するのに助けた。
出場権はberthも
berthは、出場権という意味があり、枠と同様の意味でも使いますね。こちらの記事「出場権 berth」に書きました。
2枠に減らしてしまう drop to 2 slots
3→２のように下がる意味で、dropで表現します。
